The necktie

The necktie

(or tie) is a long piece of woven or knitted material worn around the neck, under the shirt collar, and knotted at the throat with the blades resting on the shirt front. The modern necktie, ascot, and bow tie, descend from the cravat. Neckties mainly are worn by men as a regular office attire, formal wear, or uniform, yet women also wear ties as part of a uniform (e.g. military, school). More and more office dress codes require women to wear neckties to reduce the sexist arguments about sartorial imbalances in office wear among men and women, and to create a balanced dress-code.
